How can I make a front office more efficient with easily distracted employees? So basically, I work in a small office with a lab and a fron toffice. There are two girls on the front office who are, in all honestly, slackers. The company has lost literally thousands of dollars from their negligence. The employer refuses to fire them (one of the two girls is his daughter). We've already taken their privleges to go on youtube and myspace during work hours. We enforced a new policy where everyone gets 2 15 minute breaks during the day in which they can use the internet for whatever they please, and a write-up system where after three warnings, workers lose half of their boonus we get every 3 months. Well, the Boss' daughter has already gotten three write-ups, and we still catch her and her fellow office girl on forbidden sites and such. This is a serious problem as we may not make payroll next week or rent for the facility. They don't seem to ge tit, and we seriously need to get them to be serious about their jobs. Any advice? Also, we've been considering monitoring their Yahoo! Messenger conversations, because every time we walk by all we see is: "ur mom" "ur face" "ur mom's face" "lol" "LOL" and various smiley's thrown in the mix somewhere here and there. We're already working on taking this away, since they sit 12 feet from eachother, so they really don't need to communicate electronically.
can someone please tell me where i can get free tutorials on rooms division management, hotel front office,... application system advantages and disadvantages with some examples. i will be very grateful for that.
What is the problem with the US Patent office? In January of 2005, I paid my attorney lots of $$ up front to file a design patent for me. He wrote me it should take about 12-14 months--, and it has been 28 months now. Still NOTHING! Two of my investors have already dropped out. They got tired of waiting. I am not sure what I will now do to finance manufacturing and marketing since they were going to get involved in both as soon as the patent was issued. I do have a " response" from the patent office to my attorney, with a file number, but it is just a form letter stating they received it and have it. Nothing about when it will be approved or anything. My attorney says "everyone" is having trouble with the US Patent Office. They are short handed, etc., etc., etc.. I don't know if its true or not. Is this just the typical Government "B.S".--, like our tax department and immigration office? Or is our system REALLY that bad? I am-- an Inventor- "in wating". ===============================================

Why is it that everytime a Republican is in office, we start seeing "The signs of the end of times" programs? Seriously, when a Democrat is in office, all we see is RISKE' business, dancing in the streets, people getting away with murder, money, money, money floating all over the airwaves like a ticker tape parade, sensational scandalism that beefs up popularity instead of punishment, etc. But when a Republican is in office, it's always shows on how national and global catastrophes that have been happening since the beginning of time and on RECORD are always front and center to being the keys to the final days. And always blaming the Governments for creating them, not preventing them, or not having a warning or rescue system to save lives. I seriously can't figure it out even in my forty years in this ever-growing crazy ass country. I thought it may be the media and movie makers, but all of them can't be Democratic can they? This is not my opinion, just an observation. I know the trends, I'm a history major. You guys are seriously not trying, and I know why.
Developing a project charter? A chain of supermarkets is facing severe competition from another chain which is computerized. So they wish to computerize their chain too. As the initial step they wish to computerize the front office billing system and back office stock control system. I have to develop a project charter and the initial WBS and scope statement for this project. I want to know what king of a name can i give as the project name, and what should be included in the objectives and approach fields. Thank you.
Can i get or file for unemployment if i have to quit because of health reasons caused by the job? i work in the front office and on the first floor of a nice building. across the hall is a restaraunt. every day when they open i swear all the smokers of america run in there and the smoke of nasty cigars and cheap cigarettes filter into my office. it makes me nauseated and gives me migraines almost every day. i've had to go home twice before because it caused my eyes to itch and burn and my nose to run and uncontrollable sneezing. i've called the management company and had them repair ours and the restaraunts ventillation system 3 times. what are my options? i so don't get paid enough here to risk my health.
What was the overriding goal of the Office of War Information? to introduce mass production techniques into shipbuilding to develop codes that the enemy could not decipher to boost morale and patriotism on the home front to set up a system of rationing
What are good ways to secure a small business office? Interior doors and exterior doors? Cabinets? I am looking into keyless entry. I suppose a card system would be too expensive for our small business. I started looking at keyless locks. Biometric seems best except the battery life? There is mechanical keyless locks but those usually are just deadbolts? I would hope to find some way to have the spring type? not the deadbolts . where you can close the door and it locks by itself. Ideas? What about front door? Biometric seems like a great idea? We can't afford too expensive systems.
Is this considered rude or is it normal for my position? I'm an administrative assistant in an office of 9 people. The office is predominately male (7 male, 2 female). One of the managers here each day at lunch time invites ALL office personnel to join in for lunch but I'm never invited. For these invites all he's doing is asking each person. During this time though the front office and phones will be left unattended, a non-issue since there is other non-office personnel and a voicemail system. Is this rude?...or is it normal for secretarial staff?
Tomlin a good coach....or just reaping cowhers system? Im a die hard steelers fan, grew up in pittsburgh so I have to like Mike Tomlin. The only thing, is that the jury is still out on the guy. Is he really working wonders with the team? Or did he just inherit the juggernaut the bill cowher built? On that note...was it really the coaching or was it the front office being able to fill holes after people like faneca and burress leave?
How much is this system worth? I'll be listing this computer on ebay today, I'm wondering how much it's worth. It's made by compaq: -amd sempron 3000+ -1gb ram -256mb geforce 5200 -120gb hard drive -cd writer/dvd reader -front mounted memory card reader and audio ports -windows xp home -office 2007 enterprise (yes, it's legit) I just want to know how much this might be worth. Maybe a good starting bid or buy it now price. I'm not posting for someone to tell me that my computer isn't very good or that theirs is better. I just want to know its value Thanks
Nec Bussiness Phone System help? My company recently acquired another and in the office they have a nec phone system. Currently the phones only ring on the front desk one but we want all to ring when a call comes through. Could someone please help? The company has given us the run around and we don't have a manual....:-( it actually says 124i/384i on the back, would that be the model number?
why is my boss such a jerk ?? My boss is from Bangledesh, and thinks that there is a caste' system in the office. He yells at the front office workers with personal attacks, bringing some to tears. My coworkers and I are not paid to be called stupid, or worthless, when he makes a poor decision, or has a bad day. I am close to throwing him out the window, for the way he reacts with others. I am having a hard time not taking my feelings home.
Assistant Coaches getting promised the head coaching job? I was listening to PTI yesterday while they were discussing assistants being promised the head coaching job. For example, Jim Mora promised the Seahawk job or Jerry promised Jason the Cowboy position. I understand the Rooney rule is in place to force owners and GMs to at least interview minorities. I feel if a coach is already in the system and the front office know they want this guy as their next head coach why not allow them to ink that into their contact. The only time the Rooney rule should come into play is when the organzation want to go outside the family. What do you think?
Can they really expel me for this? Yesterday morning, I was in the front office of my school. The secretary had gone back into the storage closet to get some supplies, leaving me alone in the room. I noticed the PA system consol in the corner, so I went over to it. It was simple enough to operate, so I turned it on, stuck my butt up to the microphone and ripped a big fart. My flatulance echoed throughout the school, evoking laughter in my fellow students. However, the principal and office staff weren't so amused. Especially as they rushed in just after I let go with the gas burst, catching me standing there with my butt up to the microphone. Wouldn't expulsion be a little extreme in this case?
Suboxone in new hampshire- Can I find treatment paying weekly or monthly instead of $5000 right up front? Does any one know of a way/ organization or anything/or one, that can help with the financial dilemma of trying to get off of opiates? I am a single working mother, and trying so hard to do what's right. Unfortunately, the system doesn't work as well for those that don't have money. Any suggestions? Or can anyone help with Money? It could be sent directly to the doctors office....If I could get treatment, I would feel better and be able to work 40 hrs instead of only 25 like I have been doing. Any help would be greatly appreciated, financial or advice. Thanks Lee
Advice on starting up my own business, Laser Welding to be specific? I am able to lease a laser welder and rent office space for 100.00 per month and a small up front cost of a computer and some office equipment. Install a phone system with internet for about 100.00/month. Anything else I should know?
Does Microsoft Office work on Windows Vista? I just got a Dell Inspiron 530/531 computer with Windows Vista. Maybe two years ago I bought Microsoft Office Student and Teacher Edition 2003, and it says on the front "Requires Windfows 2000 or Windows XP". But on the back of the CD cover it says "Requires Windows 2000 with service pack 3 or later or Microsoft Windows XP or later operating system." Would Windows Vista be considered a "later operating system"? This is the Microsoft Office Version I have: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Office-Student-Teacher-VERSION/dp/B0000C0XT1 And this is the computer I currently have: http://www.amazon.com/DELL-DESKTOP-MONITOR-Multiformat-Accelerator/dp/B001AWJZMQ/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1216417984&sr=1-8
Murphy's Technology Laws (Feel free to add your own)? Murphy''s Freaking Technology Laws; - You can never tell which way the train went by looking at the freaking track. - Logic is a systematic method of coming to the wrong freaking conclusion with confidence. - Whenever a system becomes completely freaking defined, some damn fool discovers something which either abolishes the system or expands it beyond recognition. - Technology is dominated by those who manage what they do not freaking understand. - If builders built buildings the way programmers wrote programs, the first freaking woodpecker that came along would destroy civilization. - The opulence of the freaking front office decor varies inversely with the fundamental solvency of the firm. - The attention span of a computer is only as long as it's freaking electrical cord. - An expert is one who knows more and more about less and less until he knows absolutely everything about nothing. - To spot the expert, pick the one who predicts the freaking job will take the longest and cost the most. - Nothing freaking motivates a man more than to see his boss putting in an honest day's work. - Some people manage by the book, even though they have no idea who wrote the book or even what freaking book. - The primary function of the design engineer is to make things difficult for the fabricator and impossible for the serviceman. - After all is said and done, a hell of a lot more is said than freaking done. - Any circuit design must contain at least one part which is obsolete, two parts which are unobtainable and three parts which are still under development. (For confirmation... oh never mind most of us know this)! - A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple freaking system that works. - If mathematically you end up with the incorrect answer, try multiplying by the page number. - Computers are unreliable, but humans are even more unreliable. Any system which depends on freaking human reliability is unreliable. - Give all freaking orders verbally. Never write anything down that might go into a "Pearl Harbor File." - Tell a man there are 300 billion stars in the universe and he'll believe you. Tell him a bench has wet paint onit and he'll have to touch to be sure. - All freaking great discoveries are made by mistake. - Nothing ever gets built on schedule or within budget. (Can I get an Amen?) - All's well that freaking ends. - A meeting is an event at which the minutes are kept and the F'ing hours are lost. - The first myth of management is that it even exists. - A freaking failure will not appear till a unit has passed final inspection. - New systems generate new problems. - We don't know one millionth of one percent about anything. - Any given program, when running, is freaking obsolete. - Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from F'ing magic. - The more cordial the buyer's secretary, the greater the odds that the competition already has the freaking order. - In designing any type of construction, no overall dimension can be totaled correctly after 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The F'ing correct total will become self-evident at 8:15 a.m. on Monday. - Fill what's empty. Empty what's full. And scratch where it freaking itches. - All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door. - The only perfect science is hind-sight. - Under the most rigorously controlled conditions of pressure, temperature, volume, humidity, and other variables the thing being tested will do as it freaking well pleases. (Especially amps, guitars, Harps and other music crap). - If you can't understand it, it is intuitively obvious. - If it's not in the computer, it doesn't freaking exist. - Work smarder and not harder and be carfull of yor fuxing speling. - If a F'ing experiment works, something has gone wrong. - When all else fails, read the freaking instructions. - If there is a possibility of several things going wrong the one that will cause the most damage will be the one to go wrong. - Everything that goes up must freaking come down. (Usually on your head when you least expect it). - Any freaking instrument when dropped will roll into the least accessible corner. - Any simple theory will be worded in the most complicated freaking way. - Build a system that even a fool can use and only a fool will want to use it. - The degree of technical competence is F'ing proportional to the level of management. - Any attempt to print Murphy's laws will jam the freaking printer. http://www.total-knowledge.com/~willyblues/ From; Willys Jokes Archeives
How long does a local home builder have to repair damage to my property? On December 13, 2006 a local home builder put 2 new houses across the street from me. They used an excavating company to dig a ditch and install a new sewer system in my Utility Right of Way by the road. They covered the pipes up and have not touched my property since. I told them I was going to sell my house in the Spring, and needed it fixed ASAP. Well since then, I have tried to contact them several times, called, stopped by their office and find out a time frame. Still, I see them drive past and look at my property, but never stop or call. It is now April 3, and no sign of any work going to be done. I just received an estimate for $2750 to have it repaired. Everyone who comes to look at my beautiful house for sale asks about the damage up front. WHAT DO I DO? Is there a certain period of time they have to repair it? Do I take them to small claims court? I live in Ohio and it is now spring. Need help ASAP, my house is for sale and my property looks terrible.
Illinois State Public Guardian Office has evicted me, but broke into the the 2 flat building 2 WEEKS EARLY? Illinois State Public Guardian Office (Cook County Sheriffs) has evicted me, but broke into the the 2 flat building 2 WEEKS BEFORE (5/18) THE EVICTION DATE 6/1 (front door, 1st floor - back door on 2nd floor) They have stole about 800-1000 dollars & 2 Best Buy gift cards total value of $50.00. This action has happened as My Mother was taken by the State of Illinois as she has alzheimers & they (so-called investigator from Met. Family Services {V. Green}) lied on me? They falsely cast aspersions me of abuse (money; & having sex with her and beating her). ALL LIES - as those evil persons who hold power have used this to take my Mothers life (by putting her in a nursing home & separating us not allowing us to talk) & take all of her assets. Did originally pay a lawyer $5000.00 dollars & he never came to court causing my mother to be lost in 'the system'. Lastly, a 2nd order of protection was put on me by the State guardian & nursing home admin preventing me from seeing her. Please help
Why do presidents swear into office on a bible? I hear they do this in courts for oaths too. Im dumbfounded? I was reading a news story about how presidents swear in on the bible, and apparently obama is going to chose a verse to swear into office on, or whatever, not really front page news if you ask me. Does this bible im always hearing about make people tell the truth in courts? or if you publicly swear on it will you be gifted with some kind of abilities. Obviously a book doesn't have any magical powers, and there is really no reason this will ever stop, cause my guess is a lot of people find comfort in conformity, and that creates a lot of inherited redundancy in the system, not to mention bizarre traditions. Just imagine if somebody was all like "hey Im not going to swear in on the bible" they would be everything less than stoned, because even people who endorse change, and a slogan "yes we can" will inevitably be marked as deviant and will conform into the system. Not bashing obama or anything, but Liberal hoping for a new and brighter future, well good luck with that, you elected a smart rich boy who wants to please everyone. And for the Conservatives fearing socialist takeover, like eh "taken mah guns away!" you would probably have a higher chance of guns being taken away if bush w/ the patriot act stayed in office. So whatcha gonna do?
Office Suggestions? Need suggestions to help with an in/out board system, we currently have one, and we are in the process of remodeling, and I am the receptionist, and my office is going to be relocated from the side (old front entrance) to the front (new entrance), and our Real Estate agents, won't be coming through the front, so I need some suggestions on how to use the in/out system better. What do you think of the beginning part of my story? Principle Marlene Jahowski sat behind her desk, massaging her temples. Four adolescent girls sat in front of her. All different. Yet all friends. And all in trouble. “Girls….” She began in a shaky voice. The woman was forty years old, her brown hair was graying, and her pale blue eyes were stressed with seeing far too much injustice in the middle school education system. Trying to dodge the task before her, Marlene took a look around the room. Her office was about average sized, a window on the back wall that overlooked the driveway of the private school. The green carpet was old and had coffee stains from that morning, when she had heard. The file cabinets on the wall were fairly new, with pictures of her with her only son Edward atop them. Finally turning to the girls that were occupying the only other seats in the room. She decided to address them one at a time, for all the teens were in trouble for different reasons. “Valerie, I realize you are at the center of this.” Valerie smiled sheepishly. So, she had been the one to somehow manage to get a hold of the pictures of Edward on Mrs. Jahowski’s file cabinet. The mischievous Valerie Handler had scanned them onto her computer and edited them to make the principle’s beloved son’s features contorted, or with hand drawn mustaches, and she had even went so far as to forward it to everyone she knew over e-mail, who each did likewise. What was most astonishing was the fact that Valerie had managed all of this in the time between Marlene left the school, around five thirty, and when she had gotten in that morning, at around six thirty when everyone knew. For some reason, the principal could see Valerie Handler pulling a stunt like that. The girl was a total rebel, but to the point of becoming a disturbance. She would shout out rudely and randomly in class, deliberately giving a wrong answer to confuse her fellow pupils. Valerie had a long history with Marlene. Once, Valerie had pierced her ear in the in the school cafeteria during lunch, causing two people to vomit and one to pass out. She had protested noisily at the championship game between their school and the school’s rival. A loud blow horn with vulgar language had caused a player to drop the football, and the team lost the entire tournament because of Valerie. Another episode involved a new teacher and a sparatic pencil sharpener and a sparadoc cell phone that scared the teacher away.

My Concerns I want to make sure its not another boring office job in front of a computer etc. Its hard to find a good description of daily activities. I am a little concerned about the hours and travel becuase I have a wife an child. Would I be assigned to something computer related because of my degree/experience? possible legal action on hotel? Case: 2 college students, my boyfriend and i went to San Antonio this weekend for spring break. We arrive 10:00pm and check in. They inform us that hotel.com did not reserve our room even though i paid the fee and have my reservation print out, but we were in luck they had rooms available. room was 60$ a night. i paid for 2 nights with credit card, got my receipt. Room was DISCUSTING. pubic hairs, roaches, mold, you name it! Slept there ( fully clothed) that night only because it was getting late. Next day we leave early morning to tour san antonio and have fun. That night we get back and find that our key does not work. we keep trying and trying and then all of a sudden somebody answers the door to our room. Boyfriend and I were FREAKED out! We go to front office, tell employee that there is a man checked into our room. Employee looks on computer and says he has nothing in the system of our stay, and no proof that we were telling truth. Continued>> Thats when i pulled out my receipt. He then gave me a refund for the following night, since they had rented out OUR room already and we could not stay there because they were fully booked. Next thing: My boyfriend and I DID put our clothes back into car while we went to san antonio, BUT we had a cooler full of drinks and he had a pair of clothes laying on the bed. The office employee said they are sorry, they dont know where our stuff is and they cannot get it back for us. I was pissed! I asked to speak to manger, and thats when this boy informs me that he is the manager. So, we went home that very night (5 hour drive from san antonio) the hotel stole our belongings and rented out our room while it was still being occupied. I was extremely upset at the service of this hotel. I was wondering if i could have done anything else, i am just a college student, i cannot afford legal action, BUT i feel like i have been taken advantage of and its not fair. Please help. also, is it too late, we stayed the night of March 9th and march 10th. that friday and Saturday. Sunday we were supposed to leave but we ended up having to leave Saturday night becuase somebody was sleeping in our bed! i still have all the receipts though.
How easy is it to switch between macs and PCs? Hi. I'm a part-time university lecturer and have decided to switch to Mac (I've had nothing but problems with three Windows PCs this year) as I've heard that they are 'safer' and more reliable. The problem is at work all of the computers, including those in my office, are Windows XP/PC's. I was just wondering how easy is it to transfer between the two operating systems. I don't really use a lot of software apart from Word, Excel, Powerpoint and EndNote, but will need to be able to write up powerpoint lectures for instance and play them without difficulty at University. Could someone please give me some advice here? Should I try my luck with another Windows-based PC or go ahead and switch to Mac? I don't want to be in front of 150 students and unable to open up a lecture! Be grateful for some help...
Should Principals/Teachers be allowed to use corporal punishment in schools? I've worked in and around the School system for many years. What bothers me is the fact that students are allowed to do pretty much whatever they want these days. There seems to be NO discipline what so ever. Principals and Teachers are NOT allowed to use what we called the "dreaded paddle"(that looked like a boat paddle!) to punish children these days when they misbehave. I've seen students, cuss, kick, spit, be sooo disrespectful to the staff and nothing can be done about it. Sure, you can expel, but you damn sure can't send them to the Principals office for a "good ole butt whoopin" anymore. I'm from the "old school" and back when I was in school, if you misbehaved, you had to stand up in front of the class, bend over while your teacher gave you a couple of HARD licks on your bottom, THEN you took the chance of going to the Principals office for MORE. There were consequences for bad behavior back then. Do you agree/disagree that we need C/P back in the system?
I purchased a truck from my ex after the divorce and b4 his creditor filed a lawsuit, I am to go to court soon I purchased it on April 1st. The creditor filed on April 3rd. I left the truck in front of my house while I was out of town for a month to deter burglars. While I was gone the sheriff seized my truck of which I have the title, tag, and registration in my name. THey didn't check to see whose truck it was before they seized it. I have a bill of sale which is also registered on my registration. I have to go to court now to contest the seizure on Thursday. What are my chances of getting it back? My ex owed the Ace Hardware 2000 but they owed him 2000 for work he performed there. They beat him to the clerks office and filed before he did due to him being in jail. Please help! I thought about going to a cash for title place before court but a deputy said that would be illegal!!! HOw can getting a loan on my own truck illegal as compared to what they did!!! I suppose all I can do if the backwoods legal system of Bofunk, Alabama decides to award the creditor my truck is to appeal! I bought it for 62.00 which I purchased with a money order...I can show bank records. However, he owed me 2009.00 for back child support that I paid for him our of my account in June of last year (2005) that he never paid me back. I have the Western Union receipt to prove it. The decree says that my ex would assume all debts to this particular creditor. Also it says that I was given possession and use of the pickup and I agreed that I would not sell it, encumber it, or transfer title to it. However, it did not say that he couldn't sell it to me. The fact is...I bought the truck 3 days before the creditor even filed a lawsuit. Then the next month after winning the suit, the creditor had a seizure or whatever it is called put on it. This was done AFTER the sale to me on April 1st. If I sold a lawn mower before someone filed a suit and won....I wouldn't be liable to get it back for the creditor....would I? Also...there was no lien on the truck when I got the title.

What about that rebate?? who has been there? 10 points for the best story heres A good one....? I knew better, and I still walked right into it. It all started with Best Buy. (I hear your gasp of horror already. I know, I know: How many sob stories have begun with that phrase? Some day children will try to scare each other with stories set in large consumer electronic chain stores. "'The call is coming from INSIDE THE COMP USA!'") According to the August 15, 1999 Sunday paper, they had computer memory on sale, cheap cheap cheap. Their price was low to begin with, and the $30 mail-in rebate made it a great deal. I'd been meaning to add more memory to my computer for a while, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. Granted, I had to go by Best Buy on a Sunday. See, our local Best Buy is in a shopping center along with a Wal-Mart, a Barnes & Noble, and any other number of shrines to consumerism. This wouldn't be so bad if the shopping center in question weren't in its own cul-de-sac, with only one road feeding it from the main highway nearby. Getting into the shopping center isn't hard. It's getting out that will try your patience, especially on a weekend. But for those memory prices, I'd gladly brave the horrors of traffic and the throngs of people whose job, near as I can tell, is to wander around Best Buy staring slack-jawed at the miracles of modern electronics and in general getting in people's way. I made it to the Best Buy just fine. I made my way through the crowd of people milling about the store, finally arriving at the computer department. No one was at the desk. The memory was kept in locked glass cabinets; without an employee, there was no way to get the memory. There was one person in front of me at the counter. I waited for about ten minutes, watching other people wander around the computer department and listening to one of the sales staff explain the wonders of Compaq laptops to a customer. Finally, I asked the guy in front of me how long he'd been waiting for help. "Oh, about forty minutes," he told me. "Hold my spot," I told him, then went in search of help. Both of the employees I could see were busy with customers. I decided to bother the guy hawking Compaqs. "Say, we've been waiting a while," I said, pointing to the man at the counter who by this point was slumped against it as if all the life was being drained from his body. "Can you get someone to help us?" "Oh, you need Frank. He's got the key." "Where's Frank?" "I dunno. He went on break a little while ago. He should be back soon." "Soon" in this case meant "fifteen minutes." I spent the time chatting with the guy in front of me in line. "I never come here if I can help it," he said. "But their prices on some stuff are so good, I end up breaking my vow never to come here again." Frank eventually showed up. "We're both after some of that 64Mb of memory that's on sale," my new-found friend told Frank. Frank glanced towards the cabinet. "Oh, we've sold out of that." I took another look at the cabinet. There were packages of memory in the slot labelled "64Mb memory". "What's that?" I asked, pointing. Frank took a closer look at the cabinet. "That's just some 32Mb memory. We ran out of room for it in its usual spot." Oh, lovely. "When do you expect to get some more memory in?" "Trucks come on Tuesday morning. Check back with us then." I made my way back out of the store, pushing my way past an insanely long line at the customer service desk. I'd have to wait, or try some of the other Best Buy stores in the region. On Monday, I asked Misty to stop by the Best Buy in Raleigh on her way home from work. At the time she worked on the far side of Raleigh, so could swing by on her way back from work and pick some up. They didn't have any, she was told, but should be restocked "on Tuesday morning." We decided to call before bothering with another trip to either store. Misty and I spent the next few days trying to get a call through to the Best Buy in either Raleigh or Durham. The procedure went something like this: Dial the number for the computer department. Listen to it ring for a while. Eventually hang up. Try the number for the customer service department instead. Listen to the phone ring. If you're lucky, someone finally answers. Tell the person, "I'm trying to find out if you have any of the 64Mb of memory that was advertised in your Sunday circular." The person who answered the phone will say something like, "Mrbl fll mmtm." Do not be alarmed; this is normal. Wait on hold while Mumble Man goes to get an employee from the computer department on the phone, or to check the stock himself. After a while, either the phone will spontaneously hang up on you, or another Mumble Man will pick up the phone. If the latter occurs, go back three steps. Misty eventually short-circuited this process by asking for a customer service manager. The manager was able to tell her that, yes, they had some of the memory. After work she stopped by to buy two packages of memory. It took her over an hour to get someone to wait on her and get her the memory. But never mind that, I had my memory! I popped the memory in the computer, filled out my rebate forms, and sent them in the mail to PNY Technologies, Inc. When I first went to Best Buy on Sunday I had grabbed a number of the necessary rebate forms, and I decided to keep one of the extras, since it had contact information in the unlikely case that my rebates didn't arrive. September passed, then October. The form had said to wait eight weeks from the closing date of the offer, September 4th, before bugging them about the rebate. By November 10th, I had tired of waiting. I called the 1-888 number listed on the card. It was busy. Okay, no problem, I thought. I'll just send e-mail to the address on the card. The e-mail I sent came back. No such account at Prodigy. I kept trying to call that 1-888 number. I called early in the day. I called late in the afternoon. I would walk past the phone in my office, then spring towards it and punch in the number quickly, in the hopes of surprising PNY. The line was always busy. After a week of this, I did a little research and got the number for PNY corporate headquarters. (It's 973-515-9700, should this ever happen to you.) Before calling that number, I decided to try the 1-888 number once again. Lo and behold, it rang. To my amazement, someone picked up the phone. To my further amazement, she was helpful. I explained that I hadn't received my rebate for the two packages of memory I'd bought. She tapped away on her computer for a few minutes, then told me that PNY had sent the checks, but that the post office had returned them. She asked me for my address. I gave it to her. "Huh," she said. "That's the same address as we have in our computers. Well, don't worry. We'll get your rebate to you. It'll take about four weeks." It didn't even take that long. On Monday, December 6th, the check arrived. I tore it open. The check was for $30. It only covered half of the rebate I was due. Again I tried calling the 1-888 number. Again it was busy. This time I decided not to fool around. I called corporate headquarters and asked to speak to someone about my rebate. They sent me to extension 2002, where I spoke to a man named Gerald. He took my information and promised to pass it on to "the person who takes care of this." He also assured me that, since it was so close to Christmas, the rebate center was swamped, and that my second check was probably delayed. "Give it another few weeks," he asked. I gave it another few weeks, by which time it was Christmas, and then New Year's. The check hadn't arrived by the 6th, and the whole world hadn't descended into chaos because of the Y2K bug, so it was time to call PNY Technologies, Inc. again. The 1-888 number was (surprise!) busy. I called corporate H.Q. and spoke to Gerald again. "You're the third person who's called about this this week." Somehow, I wasn't surprised. "Give it one more week." I gave it two, then called back on January 19th. This time I reached an answering machine. I left a message and my number, as if I thought that they might actually call me back. Rather than wait for them to call me, I tried again on the 20th. I got the machine again, so I left another, less civil message. I decided to try again on the 21st. Hey, if nothing else I could start coming up with creative messages to leave on the machine. I was surprised when I got a live person on the phone, a man named Victor. I told him my story, including the part about the missing e-mail address, the busy 1-888 number, and Gerald's "help." He gave me a toll-free number to call in case I ever had to call back, and said, "Give me about five minutes to look up your account. I'll call you back." That was at 3:25. At 3:32 he was back on the phone. "I couldn't find your account. Did you personally buy the memory, or did someone else?" I told him that Misty had bought the memory. He said, "Let me check again. I'll get right back to you." Amazingly enough, he was true to his word. He was back on the phone at 3:39. "One check was sent out previously, and I've authorized you for the second one. It should arrive in three weeks." I was skeptical, but Victor turned out to be correct. On the 8th of February, 2000, my second check arrived. It came in one of those perforated tear-open paper envelopes, and on the inside was a special message to me from PNY Technologies, Inc. and the TCA Rebate Center: STOP! Don't Cash this Check (Trade it in for a Greater Value) SPECIAL OFFER Send your rebate check back to us (to the address on the check), and we will send you The Millennium PassTM, a Y2K solution to keep your computer running properly after January 1, 2000 (A $59.99 value!) When the new year arrives, many computers (even newer ones) will not be able to recognize the difference between dates in the years 1900 and 2000. This problem could cause your computer to behave erratically and even lose data! The Millennium PassTM installs in minutes in your computer, and will fix the Y2K bug instantly. Unlike software solutions, it will not disappear if you re-load system software, and is not subject to virus attacks. It also uses less system resources, since it is an 8-bit add-on card (hardware), and unlike software, it does not use memory or disk space to operate. It becomes a permanent part of your computer, taking over the date/time function of your system. To get the Millennium PassTM (a $59.99 value), simply return this check (send the entire page-do not endorse check). We will ship your Y2K Protection right back to you. I decided not to take them up on this generous offer. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Messed Up System? Has anyone ever experienced this: There is a fight between you and a someone, not necessarily physical but in my case just tension. You end up in the guidance office, talking to a teacher, talking to a counsler at camp, anyone. But they insist that they're is two sides of the story and we both contributed. We BOTH got hurt. Don't you wish that they would realize that they're CAN'T always be two bad guys. In Cinderella, the evil stepmother was the antaganist and Cinderella was the protaganist. However, in a case similiar in front of these authorities they would find a way to make CINDERELLA bad too, because their HAD to be a reason to fuel the evil stepmother. Am I the only one who ever noticed this? I am so tired of it! And the guidance counslers try to be so sweet but they really are just driving you crazy with the "Maybe she was hurt too!" stuff. I havent experienced this in a while but I remember the annoyance of it when I was younger. Just asking for your opinions.
What happens if employee is found to have abused unemployment system in Virginia? she was granted unemplolyment, but after an appeal the decision was reversed. We also discovered she has been working for "cash" right across the hall from our office AND for a neighbor tending to his dying wife...again for cash. These wages were NOT reported to the comission as she collected each week. AN investigation is being formed by the deputy of the VEC in regards to this matter. what are possible penalties she could face? she also CLEARLY perjured herself while under oath during a telephonic hearing. she was advised twice by the examiner to speak the truth, ( due to her outlandish answers) but she would not budge from her story. what could happen to her ? is this criminal? PLEAse HELP as she has abused unemployment, defamed our practice and spit in our faces by collecting unemployment while WORKING right in front of our faces for innocent people who paid her cash per her request. We really want justice. To date, she has never been in trouble. But has a history of filing unemployment. ( which has twice now been collected while she worked for other people ) its been an emotional devestation for us as we trusted her with our entire practice and patients. INSULTING TO SAY THE LEAST! ANY ADVICE OR KNOWLEDGE ON WHAT SHE COULD BE FACING? THANK YOU!

Incentives for employees? Reward them for doing their job? I run a medical office. My problems are getting my front desk staff to collect correct insurance information and/or correctly enter this information into our billing system. This is not being done every time, which causes my billing department to work harder (which costs money). Some patients with HMOs are assigned to physicians who are not in our group, my staff prints the information (showing the incorrect physician) and lets the patient be seen resulting in us seeing the patient for free. Some of you will tell me to fire my staff and replace them. My staff works well most of the time, but I am looking for a way to correct this problem without giving people days off without pay. What about an incentive program? Should I reward them for doing their job? Should I have a point system - every time it is done correctly, you get a point, --- every time it is done wrong you lose a point? What would be the reward at the end? Is it better motivation to reward or discipline?
